When renovating our London house, I found that adding wallpaper, new curtains or special accent fabrics for reupholstering old furniture, changed the room's look and feel more dramatically than replacing or reshuffling furniture and changing the paint colour.
So, if you're itching to revamp a room or are in the midst of renovating your home, keep on reading as I share some of my favourite fabric and wallpaper brands, many of which I used in both the homes we renovated when we moved back to the UK.
1. Schumacher A titan in the textile industry, Schumacher has been synonymous with luxury and quality for over a century! It never fails to impress with its diverse range of fabrics and wallpapers that span from classic to contemporary.
In my downstairs loo - the boldest room in our house - I used Folly in Berber Brown by Schumacher in collaboration with Veere Grenney; when I found this wallpaper, my heart actually sang. In our bedroom, I've asked my curtain-maker to create a table skirt using one of the beautiful Cabana x Schumacher fabrics. If you’ve been following me on my Louise Roe Home Instagram account as well, you know I have a soft spot for skirted tables and sink skirts.
2. Mark Sikes. I actually met Mark (a brilliant interior designer and tastemaker) and discovered his amazing fabrics and wallpaper collections back when we were living in LA. Needless to say, I immediately fell in love with his style. Celebrated for his timeless American aesthetic, Mark Sikes creates designs that reflect a classic, fresh look that blends coastal vibes with a touch of old Hollywood glamour. I love how his designs allow each piece to stand alone as a statement or blend harmoniously with other decor elements.
3. Veere Grenney. A revered name in British design, Veere Grenney has mastered the art of blending classical elements with contemporary minimalism. His fabric and wallpapers are a testament to his sophisticated approach to design, featuring refined patterns, muted palettes, and expert craftsmanship. Grenney’s designs are ideal for creating serene and polished environments.
4. Lisa Fine. Lisa Fine’s textiles are the quintessence of bohemian elegance. Inspired by her travels in India, Asia and the Middle East, her fabrics are infused with rich colours and exotic patterns that tell stories of far-off lands. Perfect for adding a dash of adventure and warmth to any space.
In the girls’ bathroom, I used (and still adore!) her Nicobar fabric to create a charming sink skirt and matching blinds.
5. Rose Tarlow. A legendary American interior designer who has carved a niche for herself with her design philosophy of "antiquity meets modernity." Her designs are the most elegant and fresh reinterpretation of antique pieces. Her fabrics generally feature luxurious textures and soothing earth tones.
6. Rose Uniacke. An expert in creating atmospheres that speak to both comfort and sophistication, Rose Uniacke’s approach to design is all about serenity and warm elegance, resulting in absolutely elegant fabrics featuring calming, soft colour palettes and chic neutrals.
