Anyone who knows me knows that I’m big on candles. I always have one burning in the kitchen or on my desk while I’m working at home. They’re so comforting and make a room feel very cosy. This year, for the Holidays, I decided to experiment with candles a bit to create my own decorative candles to use around the house or as a chic and unique Christmas centrepiece. To me, cinnamon is one of those scents that really evoke feelings of holiday nostalgia so I tried to combine the two. Enter my Cinnamon Stick Candles. These easy cinnamon stick candles are a fun and very easy DIY that definitely looks more expensive and difficult than it actually is. I made these with plain candles, as I thought any other scents might compete with the cinnamon. These are perfect for burning anytime you want the smell of cinnamon in your house, or on the table during a dinner party. Here is what you need to make them:

Plain white candles

Cinnamon sticks

Floral shears Scissors

Ruler or measuring tape

Elastic bands

Burlap ribbon

Twine

Step 1: Measure the height of your candles using a ruler or measuring tape. Cut the cinnamon sticks into different lengths using your floral shears, making sure they’re roughly the same height as the candle. I like cutting mine different lengths for a more rustic look, but you can cut them all to the same length if you prefer.

Step 2: Place an elastic band around the candle and then place the cinnamon sticks into the gap between the candle and the band. You need to fill the whole way around with cinnamon sticks. Lift the candle up and if any cinnamon sticks fall out, because they are loose, you need to put a few more sticks into the elastic band.

Step 3: When the whole of the candle is covered by the cinnamon sticks, it’s time to place the twine, or ribbon, around the outside. Cut the twine so that it is quite a bit longer than the circumference of the candle, then knot it with a bow. You can always cut off excess, so it’s better to start with longer segments.
